Transport Jobs in South Africa | Logistics & Supply Chain Careers 2026

The transport and logistics sector is the beating heart of the South African economy. With e-commerce expanding rapidly, the demand for moving goods from warehouses to front doors has skyrocketed. If you hate sitting behind a desk and prefer life on the move, this industry offers incredible variety, overtime pay, and travel opportunities.
While supply chain managers require degrees, the backbone of this industry relies on skilled drivers, forklift operators, and dispatchers who know how to safely navigate the country’s roads and rail networks.

On the Road and In the Warehouse

Supply chain operations cover everything from local deliveries to cross-border freight:

  • Courier & Express Delivery: Companies like DHL, The Courier Guy, RAM, and DSV are constantly hiring local delivery drivers, motorbike riders, and sorting hub staff.
  • Heavy Freight & Rail: Massive state entities like Transnet and PRASA, along with private heavy-haulers like Unitrans, regularly recruit train assistants, Code 14 truck drivers, and mechanics.
  • Warehouse Operations: Every logistics company needs a team of inventory clerks, reach truck drivers, and packers to load and unload cargo efficiently.

Licensing Rules: The PrDP Requirement

For any driving job involving the transport of goods or passengers for an income, a standard driver’s license is not enough. You absolutely must have a valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP). Additionally, a clean driving record and passing a company road test are standard requirements for heavy vehicle roles.
